By GILDA PINEDA DIONELA KINGDOM ADVENTURE London, UK – I first heard about the Wimbledon Tennis Championships the pinnacle of the Grand Slam when I was a young girl. I remember watching it on television in the early 1970s, during the era of then longest-serving Philippine President, Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Sr.. My father, a passionate tennis enthusiast, would play on weekends with his friends, and Wimbledon became part of that quiet family rhythm. At the time, I barely understood the sport, nor could I have pointed to Wimbledon on a map. And yet, life has a way of unfolding in the most unexpected ways. Years later, I found myself walking on the very lawns where tennis legends once stood—and even meeting some of them in person, including Boris Becker and Roger Federer. Wimbledon, I realized, is not just a tournament, it is a destination, a dream, and for many, the very essence of summer. That dream became a reality through my niece, Andrea Pineda, who proudly represented Great Britain in several tournaments, earning numerous victories along the way. Her journey opened doors for our family, allowing us to experience the world of professional tennis up close. During her high school years, Andrea competed regularly on the ITF Junior Tour, reaching the quarterfinals of the 2019 G4 tournament in Malta. She was a member of Team Great Britain at the U14 Winter Cup in the Czech Republic and rose to prominence in London after winning national under-14 singles and doubles titles in 2017. That same year, she captured the singles title at the Nike Junior International Tennis Europe competition, placing her among the top 100 players in her age category across Europe.
