While still living in Sydney, Australia and enjoying its cold climate compared to that of Manila, she finds herself spending more time in the latter. She had spent half her life in Sydney after marrying her late husband, whose parents were born in England but did business in Australia. She remains grateful for what he taught her, primarily when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. Helsa’s husband had encouraged her to eat solely healthy food. There were no cakes or butter to be found in their house. He introduced her to goat milk, cheese, brown rice, raw vegetables – all items which are not an inherent part of Philippines cuisine. Still, she adapted, as she saw that he did things he thought was best for her and would shield her from whatever problems came his way. Now, she lives an honest, happy life. Helsa spends her days meditating, loves traveling with the purpose of learning, experiencing other cultures, and taking in the sights of other countries. She still works out, doing regimes that incorporate light weights at the gym twice a week. She is a great example of a healthy mind, heart, and body stemming from self-discipline. Hailing from impressive, hardworking origins, Helsa Tooley exemplifies a continued strong work ethic as well as a healthy, humble lifestyle. Her father was a structural engineer, best known for the iconic Quezon City Memorial Circle. His other works included the Manila Doctor’s Hospital, Don Santiago Building, Hotel Mirador, the Antonino Building, Antonio Mausoleum, as well as various bridges in La Union and Ilocos Sur. His studious nature hails back before his college years, where he topped the board exams in Civil Engineering studying at the University of the Philippines.
