A Special Getaway for International Daughter’s Day

SAMANTHA GOH SUGAR QUEEN International Daughter’s Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of September. This year, it fell on 28 September 2025, offering parents a meaningful moment to honor their daughters and remind them how deeply loved and cherished they are. Families mark the occasion in different ways, some with a special lunch or outing, others with quiet moments of togetherness and bonding. This year, I chose to celebrate with my daughter, Ella, by taking a short getaway to Malaysia. She had been helping me care for my elderly mother back in Australia, and seeing how devoted and selfless she was, my husband suggested a girls’ trip. It was the perfect idea. A WARM WELCOME IN PUTRAJAYA We flew from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur International Airport and, about thirty minutes later, arrived at DoubleTree by Hilton Putrajaya Lakeside. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I was able to redeem points for our stay. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed with refreshing drinks, cold towels, and the hotel’s signature freshly baked cookies a thoughtful and comforting gesture after our red-eye flight. When I mentioned our long journey, the hotel graciously upgraded us to a spacious King Executive Room. Ella’s excitement was infectious as she danced around the room, eager to head straight to the pool. SPLASH, SERENITY, AND NEW FRIENDSHIPS The resort’s splash pool, specially designed for children, was an instant hit. Complete with a large slide, playful water jets, and a giant mushroom fountain, it was filled with laughter and energy. Ella even made a new friend, Keela, and the two quickly bonded over their splashing adventures exchanging social media details before the day was done.
