Mrs. China Elite International 2018

This year I am honoured to have been invited as a judge at the Grand Finals of the Mrs. China Elite International 2018 held in Nanjing. I have found myself doing a lot of judging and participating in various pageants since becoming TKS Mrs. Malaysia International and winning Mrs. ASEAN in November 2016.

I understand the importance my role has upon the contestants. This is the eighth year that TKS Mrs. China has held their pageant. The number eight holds important significance to us Chinese. So this year the organizers really went all out with events leading up to the October 12th finale. China has a vast population of over 1.4 billion. The women who registered for the competition were in the thousands from all parts of China. These were women from all walks of life and ages, from 40 to 70 years old!

The grand finale presented the final 50 Elite Mrs China finalists. The Top 3 winners will have a chance to represent China in the TKS Mrs. International pageant which is based in Singapore. The founder and director of Singapore TKS Mrs. International, the lovely Ms. Beverly Tan is my mentor. The venue was in Nanjing Sofitel Zhong Shan Resort.

The grandiose entrance to the resort presented an impressive hors d’oeuvres to the main course, that was the resort. Upon arrival, there was a reception desk especially for the Elite Mrs. China VIP guests and contestants. I was escorted to my room which was huge for one person. It had a balcony that opens up to the courtyard and tennis court.

After a sumptuous dinner buffet, I headed for an early night as the finale was next day. Guests of the pageant started arriving at the grand entrance of the event hall. All wore gowns, had “made up” hairdo, photos were posed, and instructions were given to the panel of judges on where to make our entry after our introduction on stage. Crowds started piling in. The pageant opened with a traditional Chinese dance performance.

Once seated, my task of scoring the 50 finalists began. It was not easy as most were confident with their introductions and deliberations. Each contestant had to state the reason why they joined the pageant and what they believed in life as a woman. It was overwhelming to see the 50 finalists
