By Jhoanna B. de Guzman PROVERBS 31 WOMAN “All who invoke a blessing or take an oath will do so by the God of truth.” – Isaiah 65:16 It is very common for us to hear about the value of blessing other people. On how powerful it is to speak life over them. On how important it is to love our neighbors unconditionally. We often hear advice on how we should be good to our friends, help someone, and bless people. And while it is indeed all well and good, perhaps, it’s also equally important for us to not forget how vital it is to bless ourselves too, to speak blessings onto us. This is an uncommon and unpopular notion since it might sound selfish, and it seems like we’re being self-centered. But invoking God’s blessing is one of the most beautiful things that a man can do upon their lives. Often, when life pushes us down, when other people oppose us and make our lives difficult, when lies are being told to us by the enemy, we tend to feel insecure and unworthy. When other people disappoint us and say bad things to us, it’s easy to forget who we are. But we should keep this in mind, other people’s words don’t have the authority as our own words do. Counter them with good and positive words. If other people won’t speak blessings to you, do yourself a favor and speak it over your own life. God said, “We will eat the fruit of our words”, why not utter wonderful things upon yourself? The fruits of the holy spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Speak about these things.
