From Japanese Streets to the Film Screen: The Epitome of Saori Mitome’s Fashion

Saori Mitome is a Los Angeles-based costume/clothing designer and a seamstress, originally from Japan. She creates custom-made costumes and clothing pieces. Her areas of focus include the entertainment industry as well as fashion. She is a proud member of IATSE 705 (The Motion Picture Costumers). Her work has been exhibited in Los Angeles at Spacedust, a consignment store, as well as The Hive Gallery. Having worked for Bill Hargate Costumes, Saori had the opportunity to leave her mark on the Hollywood film landscape and work on high-end projects, such as streaming services series and film projects. These include Welcome to Chippendales (Hulu), Wakanda Forever (Disney), and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 (Disney). While working at that costume company, Saori also had the opportunity to create costumes for Reba McEntire’s US tour from 2022 to 2023, along with Disney and Universal Studios Hollywood Theme Parks. She has also designed collections for TheConcept, the Green Gala, and LA Fashion Council’s fashion contest. In 2022, she was the Japanese designer finalist at the 10th Metropolitan Fashion Week at Los Angeles City Hall; an international fashion competition that featured high-fashion masterpieces inspired by world architecture. The piece she created for Metropolitan Fashion Week will be exhibited in March 2023 at The Palm Springs Art Museum. In the Spring of 2023, her new fashion collection will also be presented at LA Fashion Week, sponsored by The SOCIETY Fashion in Spring 2023.
