Represented the Philippines for “1st Thai Silk International Fashion Show” in Bangkok

Bangkok held its “8 th Celebration of Silk” event in an effort to promote Thai silk to the world. This year, the event launched its first fashion show called “Thai Silk International Fashion Show” and invited over 40 embassies in the city to showcase their own top couture designers with designs that reflect their countries’ culture and talents.

Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Hon. Mary Jo Bernardo-Aragon invited US-based Filipino designer Oliver Tolentino to represent the country to the show.

In an interview with Oliver, he said that the audience was given an exclusive and first look at all his 50 dresses from his Spring/Summer Collection 2019, after which he will bring these to his Beverly Hills boutique in time for awards season in the US. He said he used a combination of Thai silk that has a very good structure and pineapple and abaca fibers which give an organza feel to this collection that resulted to a very modern and very beautiful look. To make his show more exciting and special, Oliver invited none other than 2015 Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as his main muse to the show.

Oliver Tolentino became more popular after the famous incident when Pia Wurtzbach was in dire emergency for a proper gown for the preliminaries at the 2015 Miss Universe competition in Las Vegas. Oliver at that time was on his Aspen holiday when he got this emergency call from Pia’s team. And without hesitation and despite not being in Los Angeles, he tried his very best to deliver about 9 gowns, including the now infamous “red gown” for Pia to choose from. And as the old cliché goes, the rest became history.

Oliver thanked the Filipino community in Bangkok for the overwhelming support as the venue was jam packed. He also thanked Pia Wurtzbach as his special guest on the runway and Ambassador Mary Jo for having invited him to represent the Philippines. His show undoubtedly was the most popular and most watched show of the event. n
