HAPPY 50TH THE CCP TURNS HALF A CENTURY OLD!

Wednesday January 1, 2020

IN OTHER WORLDS By BECKY GARCIA The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. To celebrate this milestone, its Board of Directors feted former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos, the founding Chairman who had built it back in 1969 to house the country’s premiere arts and cultural events. The tribute dinner took place in the CCP’s Main Lobby. The CCP encompassed many firsts; not only was it the first arts structure of its kind in Southeast Asia, but it was also the first built on reclaimed land. Joining CCP Chairman Margarita Moran-Floirendo at the event were its Board of Directors, numerous arts patrons, select business and media personalities, the Marcos family, as well as their esteemed friends. After the dinner, attendees were treated to a short musical program featuring pianist and former CCP President Raul Sunico. Opting to play ‘Un Sospiro’ by Franz Liszt and ‘Kumintang’ by Fransicso Buencamino, he was later joined by soprano Camille Lopez-Molina who sang the aria titled ‘Vissi d’Arte’ from the opera Tosca by Giacomo Puccini. It was an impressive event that marked its golden milestone and Marcos’ legacy in Philippine architectural history.
