Moving Forward

s we move on in the 1st quarter of this year, I am taking on the dual
role of publisher cum editor for this double issue. Our editor, Edith
APendleton is on a much deserved sabbatical and will resume her role
shortly. Meanwhile, we have additional contributing writers and we at Manila Up!
International Magazine are both proud and honored to have the husband and wife
team of Ruben and Janet Nepales, a famous duo. The pride of Filipinos, they are
highly visible and active in the Hollywood scene.
Ruben V. Nepales and Janet Susan R. Nepales are both an award-winning
journalists. Ruben became the first and only Filipino to be elected as chairman
of the board and board member of the prestigious Hollywood Foreign Press
Association or HFPA, which votes on and presents the annual Golden Globe
Awards. Janet was elected as the first Filipino Executive Secretary of the HFPA for
the year 2017-2018. She was re-elected for the same position in 2018-2019.
Readers are going to be mesmerized with other new writers and
photographers who have joined in on our bandwagon to add zest and diversity to the contents of our
magazine.
Jenny Sushe, has opened our Sports section with her new reporting on her column “Sports and
Entertainment.” As we grow, we are notably becoming the hub for more contributors but for now, we
reserve them for our future issues.
We were fortunate to have personally met some of the Wall of the World Judges for the new reality
TV show on CBS “The World’s Best”. The 50 international celebrities were carefully handpicked for their
famous talents and individual expertise in their fields of entertainment.
Lisa Lew hosted a party for Pops Fernandez and other 49 judges at her beautiful home in Hollywood.
We met Paulina Aguirre, a Latin Grammy Award winner, and Alex Wright, producer of K-Pops from Korea.
Thereafter, our introductions to other renowned personalities multiplied by leaps and bounds.
We met Del Mak from London, Petra Spretcher from Switzerland, Antonio Belli from Mexico and the
list goes on. For this issue we had the privilege to interview them and allow you, our readers, to know
them in more depth. We are presenting a batch of more judges in our future issues this year.
So, on we go as we deliver more substance through these pages, absent the Editor’s Notes, we invite
You become our guest editors, albeit, armchair ones! !
