Highlights from the 67th Miss Universe Pageant in Bangkok, Thailand

This year’s edition of the most coveted beauty pageant, 67thMiss Universe has concluded. As the world now celebrates and adore the newly crowned queen, Miss Universe Philippines Catriona Gray, let us have the round-up of events and interesting facts from this year’s quest for the most confidently beautiful woman in the world. 1This is the third time Thailand hosted the Miss Universe pageant. First time was in 1992 and then in 2005 for the second time. It was also noted that all these 3-time hosting stints happened with 13 years gap. Mr. SomchaiCheewasutthanon, CEO of TPN 2018 Co., Ltd., is this year’s official licensee. 2This is the first time in Miss Universe history that a transgender contestant (from Spain) be allowed to represent and join the pageant. Before the announcement of this year’s TOP 20 semi-finalists, the Miss Universe Organization gave special recognition to Angela Ponce, Miss Universe Spain, with a video clip montage in her honor. In her speech, she said that she doesn’t need to win, she just needed to be there, sending message of equality, inclusion, respect and diversity to the international community. Miss Spain received a standing ovation from the auditorium audience as she took the runway. 3The Top 20 candidates were chosen based on new format picked from 3 regions of the world: 5 from the Africa and Asia Pacific, 5 from the Americas, 5 from Europe and 5 from the “Wild Card” pick from all 3 regions.
