ASEAN 31st Gala Dinner in Manila

World leaders experienced unique Filipino hospitality, artistry, and talent at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit 2017 gala held recently in Manila. The gala dinner, hosted by President Rodrigo Duterte at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, was attended by some 1,300 guests and culminated in a cultural presentation that showcased “the best of Philippine arts and culture”. The leaders of the regional bloc and their dialogue partners was welcomed by 5 giant lanterns from San Fernando, Pampanga. These lanterns represented the 50 years of the ASEAN. “Celebratory in theme, it showcased both the Filipino’s penchant for celebrating the holidays with gusto and the eternal desire of each person to bring cheer to any celebration.” The guests were treated to a 4-course Filipino- Asian fusion menu, while they enjoyed Filipino music and dance performances. Three top Filipino designers, namely Albert Andrada, Rajo Laurel, and Randy Ortiz, dressed up the leaders and their spouses for the gala dinner. The ASEAN leaders and dialogue partners wore piña cocoon barong designed by Andrada.
