In Other Worlds By: Becky Garcia On Thursday, Feb 28 at the Makati Shangri-La, with a guest list of over 200, friends and family came together to celebrate the 80th birthday of Dr. Gunter Matschuck. As a German expat that has lived almost half his life in the Philippines contributing to the economic growth of the country and enhancing German- Philippine relations, which is evident by the variety of those who attended the party. The elegant ballroom was tastefully decorated with meticulously arranged tables featuring exotic flower arrangements that focused on a mainstage made for Las Vegas nights. The feature was hosted by Johnny Litton to commemorate a great man through song, jokes, dance, laughs and love. Dr. Gunter Matschuck kicked off the night with a beautiful speech to address the guests and was followed by an array of The Philippines finest performers, a delicious 5 course meal, a beautiful cake by J Cuppacakes, and a special performance of Dr. Matschuck’s favorite song, “La Paloma”, sung and instruments played by his children, in-laws and grandchildren. Among the performers were three young tenors, I baritoni, a dance arrangement from members of the Dancesport council of the Philippines, Sean Mischa Aranar and Ana Leonila Nualla and performers Michael Angelo Marquez, Stephanie Sabalo featuring a twist on a classical, latin dance number, a tango Samba and their rendition of a modern foxtrot. A lovely Soprano by the name of Kathy Mas gave a heartfelt cover of “La Vie en Rose,” in which women from the ballroom brought up flowers from the table arrangements to individually give Dr. Matschuck a flower. While George Sarakini & Chris Bam Angpin’s version of Elvis Presley primed the dance floor with the help of Lilybeth Garcia and the Marcy Band. This beautiful party...... Read more on Full Issue!
